Making Your Move Easier – Important Tips!
By Gavin J. King
If you could afford to hire a temporary assistant specifically dedicated to helping you coordinate your move, you would be much less stressed. Having your move timed so that you arrive well before your household appliances or other important furniture may mean you will be spending a few days relaxing on milk crates, or microwaving your Hot Pockets at the local mini-mart. Moving companies are already expensive enough and paying them to help you in your move does make things much more manageable. Since most people cannot afford to do that, I have compiled a few tips that will assist you in organizing and simplifying your move.
Packing and transporting your stuff
Hiring a packing and moving company is always that best answer and it will save you tons of time if you can afford it. They can be expected to wrap and package each and every item you are taking with you. Many do, and you should insist they do, provide insurance for any damage that may occur during the move, especially as a result of faulty packing. Before you hire any moving company, as with everything else in life, make sure you do your research with the Better Business Bureau and any other entity that may help you investigate the references and practices of any company.
If you do not have the money to hire a packing and moving company, check into renting a transportable container to help you out. These containers are essentially huge trailer type containers that are dropped off at your house and remain there until you call to have it picked up. They can then be stored and delivered to your desired location when you are ready to receive them. This method will allow you to pack your own possessions at your own pace, with out having to worry about someone mishandling your stuff. The downside is that it does take more time and if you stuff breaks it is your responsibility, after all you packed it.
Transporting your transportation
Moving your possessions that move you may be more difficult that moving the smaller stuff. If you have lost sleep over it, consider these options:
- check with your moving company. They frequently have a vehicle moving service
- tow your vehicle with your other vehicle or the moving van you rent
- hire a person to deliver your vehicle to your new home
Some of these options may seem a little simple but if you put them into practice your move may go as smoothly as you dream. With thousands of people relocating and moving their entire households across the country, conflicts and hardship are sure to arise, but when properly managed they can be minimized.
